Many Americans are equally concerned about the environment and the economy. Continued emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases (GHGs) threaten our environment while reliance on imports of platinum group metals (PGMs) – the active component of catalytic converters - threatens our economic independence.
Apollo Platinum uses a wet chemical extraction process for the recycling of used catalytic converters. There are three basic processes to produce PGMs:
Smelting: Recycling used catalytic converters using extreme heat
Apollo Platinum’s process: Recycling used catalytic converters using wet chemistry
Mining: New PGM production only
Apollo Platinum commissioned both a Carbon Footprint study and Limited Life Cycle Analysis. Comparisons were made between the Apollo extraction process, smelting and mining of primary PGMs. These studies concentrate on the amount of GHGs produced, as well as the social, economic and environmental impacts of these three options for meeting the demand for platinum in the United States. Both studies, which are available for review, demonstrate how Apollo Platinum’s process has measurable advantages in terms of GHG emissions, and other environmental, social and economic issues.
These studies found that Apollo Platinum’s recycling process has the following benefits and advantages:
Apollo Platinum will help you responsibly recycle any and all catalytic converters or loose catalyst materials. Apollo Platinum is dedicated to:
